Four Girls + Three Boys = Seven

I am so in love with this baby. She is perfectly sweet and precious in every way. On one hand… I maybe ought to be doing a little more than I am these days… but on the other… I did just have a baby and I am perfectly content to spend the majority of my time loving her and nursing her and taking pictures. Besides, she won’t be this tiny for long…

I am still amazed that we now have four girls. I would have loved another boy as well, but I am thrilled to have one more daughter. And I love the idea of them growing up together. Each of them so far is so unique, in beauty and demeanor and personality. I love having a newborn, I LOVE 18 to 24 months, I adore the wit of my three year old, and I love the friendship I have with our almost six year old… I look forward to each stage with each of them… And every hair bow and every lost earring and broken bottle of nail polish on the bathroom floor and every argument over shoes and clothing and hairspray… and every moment we spend together painting our toes and powdering our faces and shopping and cooking and coloring and reading and watching girly movies and sneaking ice cream… And I look forward to the friendships they will have with each other.

Watch out world… We’re raising four girls… And I can only begin to imagine the beauty of that thought ten years down the road… Good thing we’re also raising up three older brothers…

… Who adore their sisters. And although they are typically satisfied to cuddle their newest sister for about 2.5 minutes max… I know they love her to pieces and I am so proud of the little men that God has blessed these girls to have as big brothers. Our home is busy, and noisy, and this morning alone Darc shocked herself and burnt her finger on a AA battery, Kyrah peed on my bed, and a cup of cranberry juice was spilled on the floor…

And I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I heart my family, as crazy and unique and quirky and unpredictable as we are… I wouldn’t change it for the world. And I thank God for the beauty and blessing that comes from the unusual amount of children we are raising… Our DIY 4th row suburban is ridiculous and I don’t know anyone who has a bigger dining room table… but the laughter that fills them is priceless. Yes, we are busy, but we have a schedule. Yes, there is a tremendous amount of laundry, but we all pitch in. Yes, it can be loud and sometimes chaotic, but the Lord has equipped us with all that we need, and we have come to trust and understand that peace does not come from quiet and obedient children. So… while I admit that a break is nice from time to time… I am content with our peaceful clatterings… to love them and nurture them and take pictures for as long as I can.
