I’m sure I’ve said it before… but my favorite part about homeschooling is the flexibility we have to do whatever we want. Well… maybe not whatever we want… but, you know what I mean…
Raising seven is awesome. But, it isn’t easy. Finding the time to get it all done is nearly impossible. I’m always behind on something. I love meme’s that capture the laughable realities of motherhood accomplishments… at the expense of a tidy house. Or… an empty laundry basket and nakey unbathed littles. Such is my life. On the days that all four girlies have dresses, braids and bows… I’m sorry for the bathroom that I didn’t get to and smells like urine (not that it doesn’t smell that way on any random day… because ya’ll… I have THREE boys). All to say, the hours go by and day by day we choose how to spend them.
Hubby and I think it is so important to spend quality time individually with each of our kiddos. And it’s something that we have chosen to prioritize over public schooling. If they were all gone for the school day we seriously wouldn’t have the time and space to love on and cultivate a relationship with each of them apart from the group. There are only seven evenings in a week… you can see our dilemma.
So, we homeschool. And I love it. Maybe they’re a little sheltered, but rest assured… We’ve taught them all about sex and where babies come from. Darci knows exactly what will happen to her body during puberty and they know how to create a mysql database, read solfege and are educated about the theory of evolution and the big bang.
This week has been a “whatever” week. Our cherished Steph came to visit and for homeschool we did no school…
We practiced sharing when a sibling dropped her cone on the concrete.
We learned that our state flower is a Blue Bonnet… and that it’s illegal to pick them.
And we explored the great outdoors; finding shells, skipping rocks, dancing in the shoreline, practicing our swimming skills and learning about Kayaking.
